Tropicana Avenue closed after fatal crash near Strip

One person was killed in a crash near the Las Vegas Strip on Monday.

At 12 p.m. a box truck and a van collided near Polaris and West Tropicana avenues, according to Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Misael Parra.

An investigation found that a 1998 Dodge Ran was heading west on Tropicana while approaching the intersection with Polaris, according to a police news release. A 2004 Freightliner box truck was stopped in the right travel lane at the intersection, and the Dodge “failed to decrease speed and struck the rear” of the truck, police said.

The driver of the Dodge, a 40-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the box truck driver, a 69-year-old man, did not show signs of impairment and remained at the scene.

Parra said Tropicana was closed from Frank Sinatra Drive to Polaris while officers investigated the crash.
