Two injured in east Las Vegas fire; two homes damaged

A fire near U.S. Highway 95 and Charleston Boulevard injured two people and damaged two houses Thursday.

Las Vegas firefighters responded to Vallejo Avenue just after 1:30 p.m. to a house with “heavy fire,” according Fire Department spokesman Tim Szymanski.

The fire started between house numbers 129 and 133 on Vallejo Avenue. Wind caused the fire to spread to both buildings and two cars.

Five people were displaced by the fire, and two were taken to the hospital. One woman was transported for smoke inhalation. A man also needed medical attention after injuring his feet while running across the burning front yard, said Szymanski.

Damage was estimated at $250,000 and the fire appeared accidental, Szymanski said. The cause is not yet known.

The Las Vegas, North Las Vegas and Clark County fire departments responded to the fire.
