Two killed in three-car accident in Henderson

A 68-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman died in a three-car collision Saturday, Henderson police said Sunday.

The identities of the two were not released. The man was the driver and the woman a passenger in a 1995 Ford Windstar.

The crash occurred about 11:20 p.m. near Sunset and Eastgate roads, near Boulder Highway. Police said the Windstar was traveling north on Eastgate and was struck by a 2009 Hyundai Sonata driven by Elfriede Cook, 76, who was on Sunset.

The Windstar was struck on its left side, causing it to roll onto its side and slide through the intersection, where it collided with a 2006 Hyundai Elantra driven by 18-year-old Mary Brooks.

Police said the driver of the Windstar either failed to yield to oncoming traffic on Sunset after stopping at the intersection or he failed to stop at the intersection. He and the passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.

Sunset Road was closed about four hours while the crash was investigated.

There have been five traffic-related fatalities in Henderson this year, police said.
