Indiana artist wins Nevada duck stamp contest

CARSON CITY — An Indiana wildlife artist’s painting of geese will grace the annual Nevada Duck Stamp after he won a statewide contest for the fifth time.

Jeffrey Klinefelter’s painting of a greater white-fronted goose standing on a shore while three geese fly by topped a slate of 17 entries in the Nevada Duck Stamp Art Contest.

People who hunt migratory birds in Nevada are required to buy a duck stamp for $10. The stamps can also be purchased by members of the general public who want to support the state’s conservation efforts.

Klinefelter also won the Nevada contest in 1996, 2001, 2006 and 2009. His work has also been featured on duck stamps in other states including California, Indiana, North Carolina and Ohio.

A Las Vegas man indicted in a scheme to steal $7 million in U.S. Treasury checks in Utah was arrested over the weekend in Lyon County, Nevada, a federal prosecutor said Monday.
