Kingman man dies in Monday crash

KINGMAN, Ariz. - A local man died in a single-vehicle crash early Monday.

Deputy Kingman Police Chief Rusty Cooper said the driver of a 1984 Chevrolet van was dead at the scene of the 12:40 a.m. crash on Beverly Avenue.

Cooper said Richardo Lucero, 25, died of massive trauma suffered when the van he was driving struck a hospital sign along the perimeter of Kingman Regional Medical Center. Cooper said a trail of blood leading from the passenger side of the van had police suspecting an injured passenger fled the scene.

Cooper said the passenger was not initially located or identified. He said investigators believe excessive speed and alcohol were factors in the accident.
