Lovell Canyon fire west of Las Vegas 95 percent contained

The U.S. Forest Service reported Tuesday that the Lovell Canyon fire had spread to 445 acres, but as of 4:15 p.m. it had been 95 percent contained, according to a tweet from Humboldt Toiyabe.

The wildfire started around noon on Sunday at the Spring Mountain National Recreation Area, about 25 miles west of Las Vegas, and spread quickly with help from high winds and heat.

About 150 firefighters were working to extinguish the blaze.
