Man shot in Jean after police chase

A man was shot Thursday evening after a police chase that started in California and ended along Interstate 15 near Jean, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The California Highway Patrol contacted NHP about 6:15 p.m. to let them know the man was driving toward the Nevada border, Trooper Loy Hixson said.

When the car crossed into Nevada, Las Vegas police were the first to make contact, Hixson said. The car stopped near the Gold Strike in Jean, about 30 miles southwest of Las Vegas.

Shots were fired and the man was struck while still in the vehicle, Hixson said, but it was unclear who fired the shots.

The Clark County Fire Department responded to attend to the wounded man.

He was airlifted to University Medical Center in Las Vegas in critical condition.

California Highway Patrol is investigating, Hixson said.

It’s unclear what started the police chase.
