Nye County searching for man who ambushed deputy

The Nye County Sheriff's Office is looking for a man accused of injuring a deputy in an ambush, officials announced late Tuesday night.

During the 8 p.m. incident, a man identified as Jeffrey Stevens, 46, tried to take the deputy's firearm, then ran when he failed. He was last seen in the northern area of Pahrump, near Simkins Road and State Road 160.

The deputy was treated for unspecified nonlife-threatening injuries, the office said. No other details about the incident were available late Tuesday.

Stevens is 6-foot-1 and about 185 pounds, the office said. He has blond hair, blue eyes and no facial hair.

He is considered dangerous. Authorities ask anyone with information to call 911.
