Sandoval tour brings attention to Nevada’s treasures

CARSON CITY — Gov. Brian Sandoval embarked on a major Nevada road trip this week, looking to cover more than 1,100 miles as he visits nine state parks and travels through 14 counties as part of a "Discover Your Nevada" tour.

Sandoval, accompanied by Chief of Staff Mike Willden, kicked off the tour on Wednesday, traveling on U.S. Highway 50, dubbed "The Loneliest Road in America," from the capital to Ely, 320 miles to the east in White Pine County.

"The Nevada State Parks Passport offers a unique guide so Nevadans can map out world-class adventures right here in the Silver State," Sandoval said. "Traveling on the Loneliest Road in America, experiencing the wide open spaces of the Great Basin, and photographing the dramatic patterns of Cathedral Gorge provide a perfect backdrop to the story of the Nevada family.

"I encourage all Nevadans to explore beyond the communities where you live and Discover Your Nevada," he said.

On Thursday, Sandoval was visiting Ward Charcoal Ovens and Cave Lake state parks, both in White Pine County, and the Million Dollar Court House, Echo Canyon State Park, Spring Valley State Park and Cathedral Gorge State Park, all in Lincoln County.

On Friday, Sandoval will visit Valley of Fire State Park and Spring Mountain Ranch State Park, both in Clark County, as well as other sites on his way to Tonopah. He will return home on Saturday.
