Motorcyclist dies after collision with van in east Las Vegas

Updated December 22, 2021 - 11:38 pm

A motorcyclist died Wednesday evening after a collision with a van in eastern Las Vegas, police said.

A 2020 Chrysler Voyager van and a 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle collided at about 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of East Tropicana Avenue and Spencer Street, Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Dustin Butler said.

Medical personnel pronounced the 24-year-old Las Vegas motorcyclist dead at the scene.

Police said in a press release that a 50-year-old Las Vegas man was driving the van westbound on Tropicana when he prepared to make a left turn into a private driveway. The Harley, meanwhile, was headed eastbound on Tropicana and it’s driver was “riding recklessly by splitting travel lanes and exceeding the speed limit,” police said, when the collision occurred.

Officers closed the intersection, and fatal detectives were called to respond. The intersection was closed for several hours before reopening.

The driver of the van remained at the scene, and impairment was not suspected. There were no other passengers in the van, according to Butler.
