North Las Vegas council orders study of cracks in fire station
September 7, 2017 - 12:09 pm
A fire station built nine years ago is already cracking and showing signs of structural distress, prompting the North Las Vegas City Council on Wednesday to order a $30,000 evaluation of the building.
A forensic geotechnical engineer specializing in construction defects will examine Fire Station No. 53, at 2804 W. Gowan Ave., near Desert Horizons Park, according to a report from North Las Vegas Public Works Director Jennifer Doody.
City officials said that the defects don’t pose a safety hazard and the fire station is safe for firefighters and the public to enter.
A city spokeswoman said that officials will figure out how to fix the problem after the cause of the cracking is determined.
