I-15 reopens after brief closure near California state line

Updated September 15, 2024 - 3:58 pm

Interstate 15 was shut down in both directions briefly and then reopened as police pursued a suspect on Saturday evening, according to California Highway Patrol officials.

Traffic was stopped past the California state line, just south of Primm, said California Highway Patrol Officer Shane Hernandez.

Officers were pursuing a suspect from an earlier alleged crime in North Las Vegas, according to a North Las Vegas Police Department press release sent Sunday.

Police were responding to reports that a man was battering a female victim on Solar System Street around 2:30 p.m. Saturday, the release said.

The suspect, identified as Trevion Thomas, 33, pointed a firearm at the female and witnesses before fleeing in the female’s car upon police arrival, police said.

This led to a vehicle pursuit, where California Highway Patrol officers found Thomas on the I-15, miles past Nevada’s border, according to the release.

Thomas barricaded himself in the vehicle, but officers were able to take him into custody, police said.

Officers detained the suspect, and the I-15 reopened within minutes of shutting down, Hernandez said.

Thomas faces seven charges, including domestic battery with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon and grand larceny motor vehicle.

The female was transported to University Medical Center for treatment.
