Falling temperatures, falling rain usher in weekend

At long last, Las Vegas is going to see fall weather — and it could be here to stay this time.

Wednesday will see high temperatures in the mid-90s, matching Tuesday's high of 95 degrees, but clouds should roll in Wednesday afternoon, bringing chances for rain and cool temperatures through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service forecasts a 40 percent chance of rain Wednesday evening, with chances increasing into Thursday, said Meteorologist Chris Stachelski.

Thursday should be cloudy with afternoon temperatures peaking at 90 degrees. Chances for rain are expected to jump to 60 percent in the evening, Stachelski said. Nighttime temperatures are forecast at 71 degrees.

Friday will have afternoon highs about 86 degrees and a 60 percent chance of rain all day, before temperatures at night dip to 68 degrees, he said.

Saturday and Sunday will see similar weather-wise fates. Rain and clouds are expected to keep high temperatures at 81 Saturday and a cool 77 degrees Sunday. Lows both nights should be 66 and 63 degrees, respectively.

And the news we've all been waiting for: the valley will see temperatures more typical for this time of year after the rainy weekend, "not this blowtorch weather we've had the last couple of days," Stachelski said.

October is normally the month with the largest drop in temperatures, about 15 degrees between Oct. 1 and Oct. 31, Stachelski said.

As for this year, "we'll see," he said. Temperatures next week are forecast in the mid-80s.
