Flash flood watch issued for Spring Mountains

Adventure seekers beware: those clouds could bring flash floods to Mount Charleston.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for the Spring Mountains and other parts of Southern Nevada, including Searchlight, Primm and Jean, meteorologist Barry Pierce said. There is a slight chance of rain for the Las Vegas Valley, but the watch doesn't extend to here.

A flood watch means that the conditions are just right for heavy rainfall, Pierce said.

If heavy rain does fall, there's a chance for rapid runoff in steep terrains, rises in creeks and streams, debris flows in burn areas and rock slides at some highways, the weather service warned.

But cloud cover won't stop the heat. The forecast high is 102 degrees.
