High winds, thunderstorms move into Las Vegas Valley

Storms moved into the Las Vegas Valley on Sunday and lit up the sky with lightning.

Both the northwest valley and Boulder City were hit with wind as systems moved in from both directions.

Wind gusts up to 40 mph hit Hoover Dam and began moving into Boulder City just before 8:30 p.m.

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area and Mount Charleston were receiving what the National Weather Service called quick-moving thunderstorms at about 9 p.m.

The weather service said wind gusts would sweep across the whole valley until 10 p.m.

Thunderstorms were forecast through Thursday, along with a dip in temperature to the high 90s.
