Las Vegas cold not likely to improve much during week
This week is shaping up to the coldest of the season so far with near-freezing weather Monday and Tuesday at Harry Reid International Airport and temperatures dipping to below freezing in the outskirts of the Las Vegas Valley, according to the National Weather Service.
But then on Wednesday, more cold air will arrive from the north and with a 30 percent of rain, there could be snow flurries in the valley for a few hours and likely 1 to 3 inches of snow falling on Mount Charleston, said John Adair, a meteorologist for the weather service in Las Vegas.
“It’s been the coldest week of the winter season so far,” Adair said.
Monday night and Tuesday, the mercury was predicted to fall to about 33 degrees, 1 degree above freezing, at Reid and lows of 28 to 30 degrees in the outlying parts of the valley with winds remaining light, he said.
But then the wind chill that spread in the valley Monday will return Wednesday with low temperatures of 30 to 35 degrees and then as low as 25 to 30 degrees early Thursday morning and dissipating starting at sunrise, he said.
In the daytime, it will be sunny from Tuesday to Thursday with highs of 51 to 54 and then the coldest low on Thursday night when it is forecast to be around 29 degrees, according to the weather service.
