Las Vegas flirts with record high temperature
A week of near-record Las Vegas Valley temperatures continued Saturday, with highs reaching 113 degrees at McCarran International Airport, the National Weather Service said.
But one temperature record did fall Saturday — the warmest low temperature ever. The low Saturday morning was 89, which broke the old record of 86 set in 1994.
Saturday’s high, reached at 2:42 p.m., was just 1 degree below the June 27 record of 114 that was set in 1977, meteorologist Justin Pullin said.
Light breezes of wind blew at 10 mph to 15 mph, but it wasn’t enough to make much of a difference.
“It’s still pretty uncomfortable out there,” Pullin said midafternoon.
Sunday temperatures will drop to 109, while temperatures on Monday and Tuesday could fall to 108, Pullin said. McCarran is the Weather Service’s official monitoring site.
The meteorologist expects humidity in the valley to rise on Monday and Tuesday, making temperatures equally hot and humid.
“The heat isn’t going away any time soon,” Pullin said.
