Las Vegas Valley to see cool down as September looms
Days are getting shorter, nights are getting longer, temperatures are getting cooler and school is back in session.
It can only mean one thing, Las Vegas — summer is coming to an end.
It was 104 degrees today, but temperatures will begin a downward trend into the mid-90s, making the first week of September 10 degrees cooler than the last week of August, according to the National Weather Service.
Monday's high temperature will be 101 degrees, Tuesday's will be 99 degrees and Wednesday's will be 98 degrees -- almost cold enough to enjoy all-things pumpkin spice -- almost.
Higher and mid-level clouds made for a noteworthy 6:09 sunrise this morning, but do not carry the threat of rain, NWS meteorologist Caleb Steele said Sunday.
The sun now sets around 7:15 in late August, Steele said, mentioning that the valley won't have 12 hours of daylight for much longer.
"We're losing about two minutes of daylight each day," Steele said.
Friday, the sunrise will be at 6:14 a.m., the sunset at 7:06 p.m. Fast-forward to September 28, when Steele says the valley will have only 11 hours and 58 minutes of daylight.
