Storm expected to bring mountain snow, valley rain by the weekend
Building a snowman at Mount Charleston or the Sheep Range this weekend will be possible, according to the National Weather Service.
Skiing and snowboarding? Probably not.
A Pacific storm system is expected to reach the Las Vegas Valley between Friday and Saturday, bringing snow for the mountains and rain for the city, meteorologist Justin Pullin said Tuesday.
Rain was not expected to fall as much as last week, Pullin said.
The Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort had not announced its official opening date on Tuesday. That announcement will come from them at: www.skilasvegas.com and 702-593-9500.
It’s too early to project how much snow will fall, Pullin said, but with snow and a 70 percent chance of showers, temperatures are set to dip from the mid-60s degrees the valley has seen the past few weeks.
Temperatures for the weekend, according to the weather service, are projected to reach highs of 58 degrees on Friday and 53 degrees on Saturday. Those temperatures are expected to rebound, Pullin said, but will remain in the 50s until at least Monday, according to the weather service.
