Storm system bringing May showers, cooler temperatures
Lower-than-average temperatures and chances for showers and thunderstorms are in the forecast for the Las Vegas Valley through midweek, according to the National Weather Service.
Monday will start the cool-down period with a high of 77 degrees, light winds and mostly sunny skies. Clouds will roll in Tuesday, when the high will drop to 72. Tuesday afternoon shows a 30 to 40 percent chance of rain and a chance of isolated thunderstorms. Chances for rain and thunderstorms will start tapering off Wednesday afternoon, the weather service said.
The forecast high for Wednesday is 68, the weather service said. The last time the weather service recorded a high temperature below 70 degrees for May 2 was in 1964. The record-low high temperature for the same date was 65 degrees, recorded in 1955, the weather service said.
Thursday will be dry and sunny with a high of 79. Temperatures will continue to climb Friday and Saturday with highs of 87 and 92, respectively.
Lows throughout the forecast will range in the lower-50s to high-60s, the weather service said.
The normal high this time of year is 83. The normal low is 61.
