Strong winds, chance of rain heading into Las Vegas Valley

Updated February 21, 2018 - 10:26 pm

The Las Vegas Valley could see snow, rain and strong winds Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service has issued a high-wind advisory ahead of an incoming system that could bring gusts of up to 40 mph. The wind advisory is in effect from Thursday morning until 11 p.m. The forecast high is 56 degrees.

Thursday will also see a 20 percent chance of rain that could produce some snow, although no accumulation is expected.

The 20 percent chance of showers will carry into Friday afternoon, when winds are expected to calm down and the valley will see a high of 52. Clouds are expected in the area Thursday and Friday.

Sunny skies are expected over the weekend, with highs of 54 and 58 on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Lows through the weekend are expected in the mid- to high-30s.

A lingering weather system has driven high temperatures about 10 degrees below normal for this time of year, according to the weather service. The system is expected to stick around for about another week, the weather service said.
