Vegas to stay hot; clouds not bringing any rain

Even a cloudy Tuesday can’t stop the heat or dry weather.

The high clouds that passed through the Las Vegas Valley early Tuesday were remnants of thunderstorms in northern Mexico and south-central Arizona, according to the National Weather Service.

The monsoon moisture in Arizona might affect Las Vegas weather by the end of the weekend with a slight chance of rain in the mountains on Saturday and increasing chances Sunday and into next week for central Clark County, the Weather Service said.

But the clouds that hung around Tuesday morning didn’t bring any rain to cool things down. High temperatures still peaked about 107 degrees, and nighttime lows are forecast about 83, meteorologist John Salmen said.

Wednesday’s weather will be about the same as Tuesday’s, with high clouds and a high of 108 and low of 84, Salmen said.

Things will start to warm up across the valley starting Thursday with an expected high of 110 degrees and 111 on Friday, he said.

Clark County spokesman Dan Kulin reminded those in need that several cooling stations across the valley will be open from Tuesday to Saturday:

• Walnut Recreation Center at 3075 N. Walnut Road, near Cheyenne Avenue. It is open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. It will accommodate pets in a carrier or on a leash.
• Pearson Community Center at 1625 W. Carey Ave., near Martin Luther King Boulevard. It is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. It will accommodate pets in a carrier or on a leash.
• Stupak Community Center at 251 W. Boston Ave., behind the Stratosphere. It is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday. It will accommodate pets in a carrier or on a leash.
• Hollywood Recreation Center at 1650 S. Hollywood Blvd., near American Beauty Avenue. It is open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday. It will accommodate pets in a carrier or on a leash.
• Cambridge Recreation Center at 3930 Cambridge Street, near Flamingo Road. It is open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. They will accommodate pets in a carrier or on a leash.
• Dula Gymnasium at 441 E. Bonanza Road, near Las Vegas Boulevard North. It is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
• Veterans Village at 1150 Las Vegas Blvd. South, near Charleston Boulevard. It is open every day for 24 hours.
• Islamic Society of Nevada at 4730 E. Desert Inn Road, near Boulder Highway. It is open every day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• Whitney Ranch Recreation Center at 1575 Galleria Drive, near Patrick Lane, in Henderson. It is open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
• Valley View Recreation Center at 500 Harris St., near Basic Road, in Henderson. It is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
• Black Mountain Recreation Center at 599 Greenway Road, near Horizon Drive, in Henderson. It is open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
• American Legion, Richard Springston Post 60, at 1510 Bruce Woodbury Drive, near Cougar Drive, in Laughlin. It is open every day for 24 hours.
• The Colorado River Food Bank, 240 Laughlin Civic Drive, in Laughlin will be open Tuesday through Friday with hours Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
