2017 Western Boys Cross Country Capsule

WESTERN

League: Class 3A Sunset

Head coach: Wesley Stephens, first season

Returning lettermen: Three

Top athletes: Jorge Gonzalez (Sr.), Angelo Vigilia (Jr.), Jose Lara (Jr.)

Outlook: Stephens, who guided Desert Pines’ cross country and track programs last year, brings immediate credibility to the Warriors.

He led the Jaguars to the 2016 Division I-A state boys track championship and had a pair of Division I signees at Desert Pines.

The Warriors also have plenty of other new faces.

“The boys cross country team welcomes 10 new faces to the team who bring national and state championship experience to the squad,” Stephens said. “We look to break through this season and return to the state meet. Senior Jorge Gonzalez is poised to have a brilliant season and lead one of the most competitive Warrior cross country teams of this decade.”
