Boulder City boys, Faith Lutheran girls win cross country titles

Boulder City’s Matt Lundgren and Faith Lutheran’s Keely Bakken led their teams to titles Friday in the Class 3A Southern League cross country championships at Laughlin’s Mountain View Park.

Lundgren won the 3.1-mile boys race in 16 minutes, 52 seconds as the Eagles finished first with 36 points. Moapa Valley was second with 48 points and also will advance to the state meet on Nov. 8 at Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City.

In the girls race, Bakken placed first in 21:01, and the Crusaders won with 18 points. Virgin Valley was second with 45 points and also moves on to state.

Laughlin swept the Class 2A races. Cody McGeshick won the boys race in 18:48 to lead the Cougars to the team title.

West Wendover was second with 31 points to grab the other state berth.

Laughlin’s Jessica Gnadt won the girls race in 21:57. Laughlin was the only school to field a complete girls team.
