CROSS COUNTRY: Basic boys run to Southeast win

Basic's boys cross country had four of the top six finishers, including race winner Steven Birch, on its way to victory in a Southeast League meet at Foothill on Wednesday.

Birch won the 2.5-mile race in 13 minutes, 49 seconds, seven seconds ahead of Foothill's Mikael Gammett. Coronado's Nathan Cromwell was third in 14:02.9, followed by Basic's Joseph Lucarariello (14:03), Kendrick Peterson (14:07.1) and Andrew Rangel (14:10.3).

The Wolves had a team score of 25. Coronado was second with 41, followed by Foothill (85), Green Valley (94), Rancho (122), Eldorado (190) and Somerset Academy (215).

Clark takes Sunset meet

At Village Green, Clark had two of the top five finishers to win a Sunset League meet.

Liam Jones took third in a 3.1-mile race in 18:21, and teammate Harrison Kirk was fifth in 18:49 to help the Chargers post a team score of 37. Faith Lutheran was second with 57, followed by Pahrump Valley (78), Cheyenne (92), Spring Valley (99), Sierra Vista (213) and Mojave (262).

Faith Lutheran's Chase Wood won the race in 17:04.

Pahrump Valley's Bryce Odegard was second in 17:27, and teammate Layron Sonerholm was fourth in 18:35.

Patriots take Northeast meet

At Las Vegas, Liberty took three of the top eight spots to win a Northeast League meet with 40 points.

Silverado (45) was second, followed by Las Vegas (84), Canyon Springs (100) and Valley (101).

Eduardo Soto was Liberty's top finisher, taking fifth in the 2.6-mile race in 16:26.1.

Silverado's Edward Bueso was the winner, finishing in 15:43.1. Valley's Josh Nyberg (15:44.1) was second, and Silverado's Brandon Miri was third (15:52.3).

GIRLS

Williams guides Falcons to win

At Foothill, Erica Williams won a 2.5-mile race in 16:47.4 and helped the Falcons claim first place in a Southeast League meet.

Foothill, which had five of the top seven finishers, had a team score of 20. Coronado was second at 42, followed by Basic (84), Green Valley (100) and Somerset Academy (152).

Foothill's Myna Buckley was second in 17:18.7, and teammate Makenzie Flynn was fourth in 17:42.5.

Coronado's Jessica Attebury was third in 17:33.3, and teammate Megan Denter took fifth in 17:49.6.

Larson, Crusaders win Sunset race

At Village Green, Kendall Larson won a 3.1-mile race in 22:48, and Faith Lutheran had four of the top five finishers to win a Sunset League meet.

The Crusaders had a team score of 18. Clark was second with 68, followed by Sierra Vista (83), Pahrump Valley (93), Cheyenne (135), Western (149) and Spring Valley (191).

Faith Lutheran's Cameron Bracey was second in 23:14, and teammate Emily Seigle finished third in 24:25. The Crusaders' Makayla Callier was fifth in 24:59.

Sierra Vista's Baileigh Sundin was fourth in 24:53.

Patriots edge Wildcats in Northeast

At Las Vegas, Kelea Reed placed third, covering the 2.6-mile course in 21:32.1 to lead Liberty to the team title in a Northeast League meet.

The Patriots finished with 37 points, five points ahead of second-place Las Vegas. Valley (57) was third, followed by Silverado (84) and Canyon Springs (146).

Las Vegas' Tiffany Ferraro won the race in 20:43.1, and teammate Ariana Vegas-Miranda was second in 20:51.6.
