CROSS COUNTRY: Coronado boys slip past Basic

Coronado’s boys cross country team placed two runners in the top five and edged Basic in a multi-team meet at Sonata Park on Tuesday.

The Cougars scored 40 points as Nathan Cromwell finished second in the 2.8-mile race in 15 minutes, 48.2 seconds. Robbie Jordano was fifth for Coronado at 15:54.7. Basic scored 44 points.

Durango’s Frankie Bisacky crossed the line first in 15:31.2.

Foothill was third with 86 points, followed by Durango with 92.

Foothill’s Justin Neubeck was fourth in 15:52.2.

Basic’s Jacob Kissman, Steven Birch, Joe Lucariello and Daniel Peveler all finished in the top 10.

GIRLS

At Sonata Park, Foothill placed five runners in the top 10 to emerge victorious in a multi-team meet.

The Falcons scored 33 points to finish ahead of second-place Coronado (54). Australian Select was third with 65 points, and Basic was fourth at 78.

Basic’s Raquel Chavez won the 2.8-mile race in 18:02.2, nearly 10 seconds ahead of runner-up Olivia Weston of Australia.

Myna Buckley was the top placer for Foothill, as she finished fourth in 18:56. Teammate Makenzie Flynn was fifth in 19:36.1.

Coronado’s Claire Rawlins took third in 18:47.6.
