CROSS COUNTRY: Cromwell helps Coronado boys to victory

Nathan Cromwell won a 2.5-mile race in 14 minutes, 14.1 seconds Wednesday to help Coronado's boys cross country team to victory in a six-team meet at Foothill.

The Cougars had a team score of 23. Foothill was second with 41, followed by Rancho with 78, Silverado with 115 and Adelson School with 129.

Foothill's Mikael Gamett was second in 14:19.5. Coronado's Xavier Cummins was third in 14:49.3, and teammate Matthew Candalaria was fourth in 14:58.8. Silverado's Omar Aguilar-Espinoza took fifth in 14:59.

Wolves run to victory

At Cornerstone Park, Basic took six of the top nine spots to earn a victory in an eight-team meet.

Faith Lutheran's Chase Wood won the 3.1-mile race in 16:39.5. Green Valley's Austin Rogers was second. Basic's Steven Birch was third (18:08.8), followed by teammates Andrew Rangeo (18:11.9) and Kendrick Peterson (18:15.6).

Basic had a team score of 22. Green Valley was second with 38, followed by Liberty (85), Las Vegas (114), Valley (139) and Coral Academy (173).

GIRLS

Falcons nip Cougars

At Foothill, Erica Williams won a 2.5-mile race in 16:25.6 to help the Falcons to a narrow victory in a five-team meet.

Foothill's team score of 28 was one point better than Coronado. Silverado was third with 89, followed by Rancho with 122 and Canyon Springs with 129.

Foothill's Myna Buckley was second in 17:28.5, and teammate Makenzie Flynn was fourth in 18:00.6.

Coronado's Jesscia Atteberry was third in 17:31, and teammate Sabrina Granger was fifth in 18:02.8.

Gators cruise to win

At Cornerstone Park, Green Valley runners took three of the top five spots as the Gators easily won a seven-team meet.

Faith Lutheran's Kendall Larson won the 3.1-mile race in 21:39.7.

Green Valley's Sara Braverman was second in 22:21.8, with teammates Sierrah Rivera (23:13.8) and Milena Palor (23:19.4) taking fourth and fifth.

Liberty's Kelea Reed was third in 23:11.6.
