CROSS COUNTRY: Crusaders’ Wood races to easy win

Chase Wood won a 3.1-mile race in 16 minutes, 49 seconds on Wednesday to help Faith Lutheran's boys win a cluster meet at Cheyenne.

Wood's time was nearly two minutes ahead of second-place Rylan Banegas (18:39) from Cheyenne.

Jonathan Williams finished fourth in 18:56 for Faith Lutheran, which scored 27 points. Marcus Vellinga was third in 18:40 for Cheyenne, which placed second with 49 points. Del Sol was third with 94 points.

Roberts, Centennial win cluster meet

At Palo Verde, Dominic Roberts won a 3.1-mile race in 17:30.9 to help Centennial finish first in a cluster meet.

The Bulldogs, who also got a third-place finish from Andy Martin in 18:09.3, had 31 points. Palo Verde was second with 44, followed by Bonanza (93), Cimarron-Memorial (101) and Legacy (102).

Bonanza's Brandon Adams was second in 18:04.1.

Clark wins 10-team meet

At Boulder City, Clark had three of the top four finishers to capture a 10-team meet.

The Chargers' Brendan Palmer finished second in a 3.1-mile race in 18:27.3, and was closely followed by teammates Liam Jones (18:28.4) and Harrison Kirk (18:29.3) to help Clark win the team competition with 35 points. Tech was second with 68, followed by Pahrump Valley with 82 and Spring Valley with 114.

Pahrump's Bryce Odegard won the race in 17:33.4.

GIRLS

Crusaders roll to win

At Cheyenne, Faith Lutheran had four of the top five finishers, including race winner Kendall Larson, to run away with a win in a cluster meet.

Larson won the 3.1-mile race in 22:00. Del Sol's Ingrid Zarate was second in 22:09, followed by the Crusaders' Cameron Bracey (22:28), Makayla Callier (23:51) and Sadie Oakley (24:10).

Faith Lutheran had a team score of 19. Moapa Valley was second with 79 points, and Western finished third with 86 points, one point better than Del Sol.

Alexis Gourrier leads Bulldogs to win

At Palo Verde, Alexis Gourrier won a 3.1-mile race in 19:14.8, and teammate Karina Haymore was second in 19:55.2 as Centennial won a cluster meet.

The Bulldogs had 24 points. Palo Verde was second with 33, followed by Cimarron-Memorial with 89, Bonanza with 105 and Somerset Academy with 146.

The Meadows' Ellen Hirsberg finished third in 19:57.5.

Tech places three in top five to earn win

At Boulder City, Tech placed three runners in the top five to win a close decision over Boulder City in a cluster meet.

Tech's Carla Gatson was third, finishing a 3.1-mile race in 23:25.9, with teammates Eden Tesfay (24:13.1) and Madison Marsicano (24:28.8) taking the next two spots. They helped the Roadrunners to a team score of 43. Boulder City had 45 points, followed by Clark with 54 and Pahrump Valley with 83.

Sierra Vista's Sarriah Brown won the race in 22:57.6. Boulder City's Sierra Selinger was second in 23:00.4.
