CROSS COUNTRY: Heerema leads Mustangs to victory in seven-team meet

Jeneke Heerema won a 3.1-mile race in 19 minutes, 54.1 seconds to help The Meadows’ girls cross country team finish first in a seven-team meet at Cornerstone Park on Wednesday.

The Mustangs had five of the top seven finishers and had 21 points. Green Valley took second with 46, followed by Basic with 87 and Liberty with 88.

The Meadows’ Ellen Hirsberg placed second in 20:11.1.

Liberty’s Skyler Free was third in 20:42.1, followed by Green Valley’s Amy Amezcua (21:16.0).

Green Valley boys win cluster meet

At Cornerstone Park, Austin Rogers won a 3.1-mile race in 16:56.6 to help Green Valley’s boys win an eight-team meet.

The Gators had three of the top four finishers and had 33 points. Basic was second with 45. Las Vegas took third with 108.

Green Valley’s Robert Lovelady took second in 17:17.6 and teammate Leonardo Rubi was fourth (17:24.7).

Las Vegas’ Miguel Ramirez was third in 17:23.1. Valley’s Josh Nyberg (17:29.9) rounded out the top five.
