Faith Lutheran’s Chase Wood claims state Heisman

Faith Lutheran cross country standout Chase Wood was named the Nevada male winner of the Wendy's High School Heisman.

Wood won his second consecutive Division I-A state cross country title on Saturday, winning the 3.1-mile race in 16 minutes, 46 seconds.

Wooster's Holly Merrill was the state's female winner. Wood and Merrill now are in the running to be among 10 national finalists.

The Wendy's High School Heisman recognizes students for excellence in athletics, academics and community service.

The national winners will be announced on Dec. 11 in New York.
