Foothill’s Nathan Carlin wins freshmen boys race at Bud O’Dea Classic

Nathan Carlin pulled away from the field Tuesday and helped Foothill’s boys cross country team capture the freshmen race of the Bud O’Dea Classic at Desert Breeze Park.

Carlin won the 2.5-mile race in 14 minutes, 0.9 seconds.

Arbor View’s Noah Espeleta was second in 14:25.6, and Clark’s Michael Pearl took third in 14:50.2

The Falcons cruised to the team title with 41 points. Arbor View was second with 101. Tech nosed out Coronado for third place on a sixth-runner tiebreaker after both teams had 105 points.

Shadow Ridge’s Joseph Hughes turned in the day’s best time en route to winning the sophomore boys race.

Hughes finished in 13:59.7.

Centennial’s Noah Norris was second in 14:19.2, and Green Valley’s Esondre Christian was third in 14:28.9.

Green Valley used its depth to win the team title with 61 points. Shadow Ridge was second with 69, and Palo Verde took third with 91.

In the sophomore girls race, Bishop Gorman’s Emilia Puskas cruised to victory in 15:55.6

Desert Oasis’ Jacey Wood was second in 16:20.0, followed by Coronado’s Erin Shannon in 16:38.4.

Faith Lutheran edged Palo Verde for the team title. The Crusaders had 68 points to the Panthers’ 72. Coronado was third with 81.

Cimarron-Memorial’s Olivia Garcia ran away and hid with the freshmen girls race, winning in 15:59.4.

Moapa Valley’s Emma Humes was second in 17:05.5, and Shadow Ridge’s Ellie Reese was third in 18:06.

Palo Verde won a close battle for the team title with 58 points, two fewer than Arbor View. Faith Lutheran was third with 61.
