Small-school cross country meets set for Laughlin

The area’s Class 1A/2A and 3A cross country teams will vie for state meet berths Friday at Mountain View Park in Laughlin.

The meet begins at 10 a.m. The top two teams and top three individuals from nonqualifying teams advance to the Class 1A/2A state meet Nov. 8 in Boulder City.

The boys and girls teams from Laughlin, led by Cody McGeshick and Jessica Gnadt, are expected to dominate the 1A/2A races.

White Pine, Lund, Indian Springs, West Wendover, Adelson School, Henderson International, Agassi Prep and The Meadows also will participate.

All four Class 3A schools — Faith Lutheran, Boulder City, Moapa Valley and Virgin Valley — will be in the hunt for the two team spots at state. The top five individuals from nonqualifying teams in 3A advance to state.

Faith Lutheran, Moapa Valley and Boulder City are expected to head the boys field for the two spots at state.

Boulder City’s Matt Lungren and Moapa Valley’s Josh Thompson are the individual favorites for the boy’s 3A championship.

Faith Lutheran’s girls are expected to easily qualify for state. The battle for the second spot is expected to be between Moapa Valley and Virgin Valley.
