Carrell pulls away at Labor Day Classic

Arbor View's Katie Carrell breezed to a win Saturday in the seniors race at the Labor Day Classic at Palo Verde.

Carrell posted a time of 18:40.42 and had plenty of time to recover before the next competitor crossed the line. Laughlin's Jessica Gnadt took second in 20:08.69.

Each class had its own race on the 4,506-meter course.

Shadow Ridge's Michelle Schenk posted the second-fastest time of the day to win the juniors race in 19:23. Clark's Elisa Vazquez took second in 20:07.

Palo Verde's Kelsi Koch cruised to the win in the sophomores race, posting a time of 19:37.43. Liberty's Joslyn Evans took second in 20:17.89.

In the freshmen race, Palo's Kristen Martinez pulled away to win in 19:44.22, nearly a minute faster than second-place Julianna Thornock of Clark (20:43.78).
