Centennial girls perfect at UNLV Invitational

Centennial's girls cross country team couldn't have had a better day Saturday.

The Bulldogs placed their seven runners in the top seven spots and breezed to the team title in the UNLV Invitational at Craig Ranch Park.

Alexis Gourrier won the 3.1-mile race in 19 minutes, 3.8 seconds, starting the Bulldogs' parade to the finish line.

Karina Haymore was second in 19:43.4, followed by teammates Julia Weaver (19:55.4), Halie McGannon (20:01.9), Kayla Roberts (20:02.1), McKenzie Morgan (20:03.9) and Delani Dietrich (20:20.4).

The Meadows' Ellen Hirsberg was the first non-Centennial runner to cross, finishing eighth in 20:51.8.

The Bulldogs had a perfect score of 15. Shadow Ridge was a distant second with 80 points. Faith Lutheran was third with 100. Tech finished fourth and Legacy fifth, both with 127 points.

In the boys race, Faith Lutheran's Chase Wood ran away to win 16:06.8.

Centennial's Dominic Roberts was second in 16:36.3, followed by Pahrump Valley's Bryce Odegard in 16:56.2.

Steven Birch finished fourth in 17:00.8 and helped Basic capture the team title with 41 points. The Wolves had five runners among the first 14 finishers in the race.

Centennial was second with 59 points, followed by Faith Lutheran with 95 and Pahrump with 136.
