Jones, Aggies win UNLV Invite

Arbor View’s girls cross country team took the top three spots Saturday at Sunset Park to win the UNLV Invitational.

Zanae Jones led the way for the Aggies,winning the 3.1-mile race in 19 minutes, 21.83 seconds.

Madison Fletcher was second in 20:01.29, and Morgan Anderson finished third in 20:08.63 for Arbor View, which finished with 22 points to win the 14-team meet.

Green Valley took the next two spots and finished second as a team with 59 points. Shadow Ridge was third with 90.

Green Valley’s Sara Braverman finished fourth in 20:08.88, and Lindy Eskin was fifth in 20:23.34 for the Gators.

Santee (Calif.) won the boys meet with 47 points. Green Valley was the top local team with 72, followed by Shadow Ridge (76) and Arbor View (97).

Eldorado’s Eddie Esquivel won the race in 15:49.19. Arbor View’s Cole Jones was second in 16:13.61, and Santee’s Edwin Morales was third in 16:18.17.

Shadow Ridge’s David Peters (16:30.36) and Nick Oberdin (16:44.51) rounded out the top five.

Tech’s Ponce eighth at Stanford

At Palo Alto, Calif., Tech senior Martin Ponce placed eighth in the Division III race at the Stanford Invitational.

Ponce covered the 3.1-mile course in 16:23.

Miguel Garcia (17:04) placed 39th for the Roadrunners, and teammate Garrett Meyer (17:19) was 58th.
