Outlook: The Aggies bring back 10 starters, including some big offensive weapons in Kublick (2,100 passing yards, 28 touchdowns), Rucks (1,300 receiving yards, 600 rushing yards) and Yoakum (400 receiving yards).
Rucks (19 interceptions) and Yoakum (90 tackles, 5 interceptions) also will help guide the defense.
“We’re excited for this season with so many returning starters,” Johnson said. “We hope to compete deep in the playoffs.”

BISHOP GORMAN
Head coach: Colt Goodman, first season
2017-18 record: First-year program
Top players: RB/LB Gwen Bobowicz (Sr.), QB/LB Celia Korona (So.), RB/S Amari Hicks (Fr.), QB Jessica Gao (Fr.)
Outlook: Goodman, who was the head coach of Democracy Prep’s football team from 2008-11 and has been a member of Gorman’s football staff for the past several years, will lead the Gaels onto the field for the first time this season.
Gorman will compete as an independent as it gains knowledge of the game.
“Being our first year, we are looking for growth in each and every practice,” Goodman said. “We hope to learn from each and every game, and improve every day in our understanding of the game and execution of the techniques required to play and win.”

BONANZA
Head coach: Dion Lee, second season
2017-18 record: 14-6 (9-1 Southwest/first)

Outlook: The Bengals went from a fifth-place team in 2015-16 to third in 2016-17 to first in the Southwest in Lee’s first season last year.
“The team came together during my first year,” Lee said.
They return 10 starters from that team and should be one of the favorites in the Mountain Region after advancing to the Sunset Region semifinals last season.
Second-team all-state honoree Rasiang threw for 4,144 yards and 57 touchdowns last year and again is surrounded by explosive weapons in Beck (1,431 rushing yards, 6 TDs), Kestner (112 catches, 1,079 yards, 12 TDs), Dunn (53 catches, 1,024 yards, 13 TDs) and Vasquez (59 catches, 926 yards, 11 TDs).
Valle (123 tackles), Castro (83 tackles, 7 sacks, 3 interceptions), Merrell (49 tackles, 2 interceptions) and Concepcion (52 tackles, 2 interceptions) return to lead the defense.
“We want to build from last year’s league championship and playoff run to reach the state championship game this year,” Lee said.

Top players: QB/S E’leseana Patterson (Jr.), WR/S Angel Buchanan (Jr.), RB/CB Ariyanna Burns (Sr.), RB/CB Maria Borrero (Sr.)
Outlook: The winners of the last two Class 3A state titles, the Desert Shields move up to 4A with nine returning letter winners.
Patterson, a first-team all-state selection, threw for 2,702 yards and 28 touchdowns, rushed for 1,581 yards and 21 TDs and had six interceptions and 53 tackles last season.
Buchanan (4 receiving TDs), Burns (2 receiving TDs) and Borrero (3 interceptions) also should be among the leaders.
“My girls are pumped up and ready to take on the new 4A division,” Johnson said. “After winning state back to back we have some big shoes to fill, with losing some keys seniors. My young team will have to step up and make big plays for us.”

Outlook: There are few weapons in Southern Nevada as explosive as Del Rosario (4,783 passing yards, 66 touchdowns; 8 rushing TDs; 8 interceptions).
“She is a year removed from her 2017 state player of the year award and she had an impressive year last year as well,” Bailey said. “We will look to her for leadership and offense. It shouldn’t take Del Rosario long this season to become the state’s first official 10,000 yard passer ever. From there we expect her to continue to roll.”
Bethea (89 catches, 1,318 yards, 15 TDs; 3 interceptions, 2 sacks) and Hilton (36 catches, 682 yards, 6 TDs) are among the other weapons the Spartans have on offense.
Nerio (70 tackles) also returns to help guide the defense.
“Halton, Bethea, and Obradovic make up a solid core of returning receivers for Del Rosario to target,” Bailey said. “Defensively we lost a few pieces, but new faces and backups from last year will fill those roles and help returning starters Haylee Nerio and Del Rosario anchor a solid group.
“As always, Cimarron looks forward to a great year and a deep playoff run.”

Outlook: The Chargers qualified for the Sunset Region playoffs and bring back a talented crew of offensive weapons.
Gomes (2,001 passing yards, 21 TDs; 1,134 rushing yards, 14 TDs), Quinones (822 rushing yards, 5 TDs), Centeno (765 receiving yards, 14 TDs), and Gashaw (318 receiving yards, 2 TDs) are expected to be among the leaders on offense.
Malley (55 tackles), Chavira (44 tackles) and Orocio (10 interceptions) return to anchor the defense.
“After graduating all of our linebackers, including an all-star, we have some rebuilding to do on that side of the ball,” Moyle said. “On offense we return five starters and will be looking to push the pace.
“Expectations are as high as ever as we look to compete for a league title.”

Outlook: After finishing second in the Sunrise League and advancing to the Class 3A semifinals last year, the Dragons lost 10 players to graduation.
“We return a solid cast of letter winners on both sides of the ball,” Campbell said. “The offense will be led by seniors Stephanie Tewart, Angel Hodges, and Janet Varela. The defense will be anchored by middle linebacker Shelby Martin.
“We look to be competitive in the 3A league and hope to make some playoff noise.”

“We hope to make it to playoffs and hopefully win a division banner for the school,” Cuellar said. “We want to continue playing well and stay injury-free.”

Outlook: Smith takes over a team that showed some improvement last season and qualified for the Sunrise Region playoffs.
The Sundevils, though, return only four starters.

Outlook: The Gators came up one point short against eventual state champion Coronado in last year’s Sunrise Region final and return a handful of weapons from that team.
Mayberry (70 catches, 846 yards, 14 touchdowns; 157 tackles, 5 sacks, 10 interceptions) was a first-team all-state selection last year.
Haberstock (2,499 passing yards, 44 touchdowns) returns to guide the offense. Camacho (128 tackles, 4 sacks, 7 interceptions) and Arce (91 tackles, 3 sacks, 3 interceptions) are back to anchor the defense.
“As always, our goal is to make the playoffs and compete for titles in the division, league, and state,” Torrez said. “We have a lot of young girls who are very excited to get on the field and play this year.
“There are no easy opponents on the schedule this season so we hope to hit the ground running and improve every game.”

Head coach: Jon Hicks, second season
2017-18 record: 17-8 (8-0 Northeast/first)

Top players: QB Kaitlyn Horstdaniel (Sr.), RB Brinkley McCoy (Jr.), WR Morgan Adamson (Jr.), LB Brisa Bautista (Sr.), DB Skyla Faught (Jr.)
Outlook: Horstdaniel threw for 2,616 yards and 40 touchdowns last year and is back for her third season of leading the Wildcats’ offense.
She’ll have some help in McCoy (1,165 rushing yards, 15 TDs) and Adamson (13 yards per catch, 8 TDs). Hicks said Adamson is ready for “a big year with her height and speed creating mismatches in the secondary.” He also is excited about the prospects of sophomore receiver Hailey Rebibes.
Bautista and Faught will be among the leaders on defense.
The Wildcats are fast and athletic, but we are inexperienced on offense,” Hicks said. “Establishing ourselves as a physical, swarming defense will be the key to our success early in the season as our offense develops chemistry and timing throughout the season.
“The realignment created a far more competitive league for us, and we will rely on the leadership of our returners to get us over the hump as our new players learn to compete at the varsity level.”

Outlook: The Pirates were senior-laden last year and have to retool their lineup this season.
“We lost most of the team to graduation last year,” Belcher said. “Returning four from last year with one starter returning on defense. Very young and inexperienced, but have 70 girls in the program.
“We have some talent and if things can come together, we can contend for the playoffs.”

2017-18 record: 5-12 (4-4 3A Sunset/third)

Top players: RB/S Elena Salazar (Sr.), OT/S Kayla Wilkerson (Sr.), C/LB Cheyanne Johnson (Sr.), RB/DB Tiana Mikell (Sr.), WR/DB Marilyn Membrano (Sr.)
Outlook: Salazar (421 rushing yards, 3 TDs; 17 catches, 275 yards, 1 TD; 85 tackles, 3 interceptions) and Mikell (533 rushing yards, 3 TDs; 81 tackles) highlight a list of six returning starters for the Rattlers.
Wilkerson (66 tackles, 3 interceptions), Johnson (38 tackles) and Membrano (34 tackles) also return to help guide the defense.
“The program is looking to continue to make strides with those returning starters, as well as a new core of young players as the Rattlers will look to compete in the new 3A league,” Kofod said.

Outlook: The Panthers advanced to the Sunset Region championship game for the third straight season last year, but return only two offensive starters.
“We are replacing several players on the offensive side of the ball this year,” Eurich said. “However, we have many young and eager girls who can’t wait for the opportunity to prove themselves.”
The Panthers also have to make up for the loss of first-team all-state honoree Betsy Bellinger, who had 1,329 receiving yards and 17 interceptions as a senior last year.
“We have a solid group of returners on defense that we hope will take some of the pressure off the offense.” Eurich said. “Our goal is to get better each game with the hope of being able to break the streak of defeat in the region championship.”

Outlook: The Grizzlies return only five starters from a team that struggled to find success last year.
“For the second consecutive season, the Lady Grizz graduated a big class and will be relying on new, inexperienced players to help the Lady Grizz find a way to win,” Marcus Teal said. “Last season, the Lady Grizz did not win a game as they had 16 new varsity players learning to play the game on the fly.”
Teegan Teal is the lone holdover from the program’s 2016 playoff appearance.
“Siam Vicuna, Shemari Collins, Rayahni Peters, and Diana Borboa-Perez also return as second-year varsity players to help the Lady Grizz try to get back on track to developing a quality program,” Marcus Teal said.

DeGuzman (600 rushing yards, 5 TDs; 101 tackles, 3 interceptions) returns to help on both sides of the ball, and Adarve (85 tackles, 9 interceptions) and Carrillo (52 tackles, 14 interceptions) again should be among the leaders on defense.
“Making the move up to 4A this season, Tech returns seven starters total on both sides of the ball,” Vespo said. “With the departure of Rhedisa Sua, senior captain and the sack leader in all of Southern Nevada last season (35), I am looking forward to seeing who steps up and takes on that leadership role.
“We are young, and hungry. Expectations are high for this talented group of girls. Anything less then a 4A playoff berth would be considered a disappointment.”

Outlook: The Bulldogs have advanced to the Class 3A state title game each of the last two years, but return only four starters from last year’s squad.
“Virgin Valley lost 12 seniors last year to graduation and will rely on four talented returning starters to anchor this year’s varsity team,” Bowler said. “The new varsity players are excited to rebuild on the success of past teams and look forward to a competitive season.”
