2018-19 Green Valley Flag Football Capsule

GREEN VALLEY

Head coach: David Torrez, fifth season

2017-18 record: 20-4 (7-3 Southeast/second)

Returning letter winners (starters): Nine (four)

Top players: LB Anna Marie Arce (Sr.), QB Jennifer Haberstock (Sr.), WR/LB Christina Mayberry (Sr.), LB Jazlyn Camacho (Jr.)

Outlook: The Gators came up one point short against eventual state champion Coronado in last year’s Sunrise Region final and return a handful of weapons from that team.

Mayberry (70 catches, 846 yards, 14 touchdowns; 157 tackles, 5 sacks, 10 interceptions) was a first-team all-state selection last year.

Haberstock (2,499 passing yards, 44 touchdowns) returns to guide the offense. Camacho (128 tackles, 4 sacks, 7 interceptions) and Arce (91 tackles, 3 sacks, 3 interceptions) are back to anchor the defense.

“As always, our goal is to make the playoffs and compete for titles in the division, league, and state,” Torrez said. “We have a lot of young girls who are very excited to get on the field and play this year.

“There are no easy opponents on the schedule this season so we hope to hit the ground running and improve every game.”
