Tiarra Del Rosario shines as Cimarron takes down Arbor View

Cimarron-Memorial flag football coach Mark Bailey was even-keel after a 37-0 victory at Arbor View on Wednesday night.

The Spartans, after all, are still in second place in the Northwest League.

But they are the defending Class 4A state champions, and they certainly looked the part against the Aggies.

Reigning player of the year Tiarra Del Rosario completed 17 of 25 passes for 250 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another score in the Spartans’ shutout victory.

She also played safety, intercepting a pass, and helped the defense generate three key takeaways to keep Arbor View at bay.

“Everybody just kind of feeds off of (her),” Bailey said. “That’s how it worked tonight.”

Del Rosario found her rhythm late in the second quarter and led back-to-back touchdown drives to give the Spartans a 12-0 halftime lead.

She was just as surgical in the second half, and threw a pair of touchdown passes to Sam Silva, who caught seven passes for 98 yards and two scores.

“I know where (my receivers) will be at. I know where to throw it, and I know they’ll catch it,” Del Rosario said. “They’re very worthy of catching the ball.”

Cimarron wide receiver Mya Bethea had five catches for 61 yards and a touchdown, and running back Catherine Javan added 63 rushing yards and a score.

Alejandra Rojas had a pick-six as time expired, and Bailey was pleased the Spartans handled their business against a conference rival.

“The priority is making the playoffs, one through four seed, I’ll take any of them,” Bailey said. “To beat a team we were tied in second with, obviously that’s huge.”
