Beals, Bengals edge Western

Bonanza senior running back Antonio Beals led the Bengals to a 41-35 win over visiting Western in a back-and-forth battle Friday night.

Beals rushed the ball 35 times for 286 yards and three touchdowns.

Bonanza (4-2, 3-0 Southwest) jumped to 14-0 lead in the first quarter but Western countered in the second with two straight touchdowns. The first on  an 11-yard pass from quarterback Devin Wiedemann to Dante Warren and the second on a 23 yard scamper from tailback Brian Mickel.

Bonanza responded with an 84-yard touchdown pass from Sterling Sprau to Aaron Beals on a third down-and-20 with 3:30 to go in the second quarter.

In the second half, the teams traded scores five times before Bonanza’s Aaron Simon sealed the victory for the Bengals. He scored on a 98-yard kick return for a touchdown with 4:26 to go in the contest.

Western (1-4, 1-2) was led by Wiedemann who finished with 202 yards passing with 13 completions on 21 attempts and two touchdowns.
