The senior running back/linebacker scored two touchdowns, including the game winner, to give the Falcons a 34-30 win over Basic. Merritt had an 87-yard kickoff return for a TD and a 6-yard TD run to go along with 17 tackles on defense.

The senior running back rushed for 185 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries in a 21-14 victory over Agassi Prep to give the Mustangs sole possession of first place in the Division III Southern League.

The senior shot 2-under-par 70 and hit all 18 greens in regulation to capture her second straight Division I-A Southern Region title.

ARBOR VIEW — Boys soccer player Alfredo Carrera had a goal and an assist in a 5-4 win over Bonanza and two assists in a 6-4 victory over Centennial. Girls cross country runner Neally Peters finished eighth in the freshman race at the Frosh/Soph Championships with a time of 18 minutes, 6.1 seconds for 2.5 miles.

BOULDER CITY — Girls volleyball player Alyssa Ybarra had a total of five aces and 51 digs in three matches.

CENTENNIAL — Quarterback Juan Rodriguez passed for four touchdowns and ran for two scores, accounting for 272 yards of offense, in a 62-14 victory over Shadow Ridge.

DESERT OASIS — Girls golfer Ashley Malone finished second at the Sunset Region tournament with a 9-over-par 81. Boys tennis player Ben Gajardo won the Sunset Region singles title.

ELDORADO — Girls tennis player Cheyenne Delicate advanced to the quarterfinals of the Sunrise Region individual tournament.

FAITH LUTHERAN — Boys soccer goalkeeper Carter Bishop had a total of 15 saves in two matches.

GREEN VALLEY — Football kicker Frank Canales made all six of his extra points and a 36-yard field goal in a 45-37 victory over Canyon Springs.

LIBERTY — Football player Preston Pavlica blocked a punt for a safety and returned an interception for a touchdown in a 51-6 victory over Silverado.

MOUNTAIN VIEW — Girls volleyball player Ally Whiting had 15 digs against Laughlin. Football player Adam Stacy rushed for 100 yards and two TDs, returned an interception for a touchdown and recorded 22 tackles against Laughlin.

PALO VERDE — Boys tennis player Ethan Ballard won the clinching set in a 12-6 victory over Bishop Gorman in the Susnet Region title match. Girls soccer player Tessa Dwyer scored two goals on headers off of corner kicks in a 2-2 tie with Green Valley.

SIERRA VISTA — Football player Daniel Godfrey scored two touchdowns, had two tackles for loss and a sack in a 54-34 victory over Clark. Girls volleyball setter Kira Felise had a total of 72 assists in matches against Faith Lutheran and Cheyenne.

SILVERADO — Boys cross country Omar Aguilar Espinoza placed 21st in the freshman boys race at the Frosh/Soph Championships with a time of 15 minutes, 54 seconds for 2.5 miles. Girls soccer player Victoria Sanchez had a total of six goals and an assist in wins over Canyon Springs and Las Vegas.

SUNRISE MOUNTAIN — Girls soccer player Brisa Pena-Martinez scored a goal in wins over Boulder City and Moapa Valley.

Coronado girls down Gorman for 5A volleyball region title

The Coronado girls volleyball team swept Bishop Gorman to win the Class 5A Southern Region final Saturday at Palo Verde. Both teams advance to the state tournament.
