The senior had a pin to capture the 182-pound championship at the Sunset Region tournament, leading the Mustangs to the team title.

The sophomore captured the 170-pound title at the Sunrise Region tournament, leading the Gators to their fifth straight team title.

ARBOR VIEW — Girls basketball player Katrina Nordstrom hit four 3-pointers and had 20 points and five assists in a 59-27 win over Cimarron-Memorial. Boys basketball player Trent Hunt had a total of 37 points in two games.

BONANZA — Girls basketball player Alyssa Powers had 20 points and 12 rebounds in a 42-38 victory over Pahrump Valley and scored 25 points against Cimarron-Memorial. Boys basketball player Jamal Logan averaged 20 points over four games, leading the Bengals to a 3-1 record.

CANYON SPRINGS — Wrestler Johnathan Barajas placed third at 160 pounds in the Division I-A Southern Region tournament to qualify for the state tournament.

CORONADO — Boys bowler Matt Baker rolled a 693 series to lead the Cougars to a 7-2 win over Liberty.

DESERT OASIS — Flag football receiver Cassie Chesler had three catches for 102 yards and two TDs in a 26-6 win over Arbor View. Wrestler Ryan Knipp placed third at 195 pounds at the Sunset Region tournament to earn a berth at state. Knipp is just the fifth Desert Oasis wrestler to qualify for state.

FAITH LUTHERAN — Girls basketball player Madison Bocobo averaged 11.3 points and three assists in three games. Wrestler Billy Bigelow went 3-0 to win the 170-pound class at the Division I-A Southern Region tournament.

GREEN VALLEY — Girls basketball player Yamilei Rodriguez had 19 points and seven rebounds against Basic.

THE MEADOWS — Girls basketball player Hana Resch had a total of 34 points, 32 rebounds, 13 steals and four blocked shots in wins over Calvary Chapel and Agassi Prep.

MOUNTAIN VIEW — Boys basketball player Tevin Gray had 10 points and eight rebounds against Lake Mead.

PAHRUMP VALLEY — Girls basketball player Jill Smith had a total of 19 points and 26 rebounds in two games.

PALO VERDE — Girls basketball player Alaysia Reed had 16 points and five rebounds in a 60-45 victory over Mojave.

SIERRA VISTA — Wrestler Edris Omar placed fourth at 120 pounds at the Division I-A Southern Region tournament to qualify for state. Flag football player Kalei Watkins threw four touchdown passes and passed for 350 yards in three games.

Coronado girls down Gorman for 5A volleyball region title

The Coronado girls volleyball team swept Bishop Gorman to win the Class 5A Southern Region final Saturday at Palo Verde. Both teams advance to the state tournament.
