Male Athlete of the Year
Frank Harris, Basic
A three-sport athlete, Basic’s Frank Harris was among the nation’s best high jumpers.
He won the Sunrise Region meet by clearing 6-7 and posted a mark of 6-8 to win the Class 4A state title, his third consecutive state high jump title.
Harris cleared 7 feet at the Laguna Beach Trophy Invitational on March 18, the best mark in the state this season and tied for the 11th best in the nation.
His times in the 100- and 200-meter dashes were in the top 10 in Nevada, as was his best mark in the long jump. He has committed to Southern Utah for track.
Harris was just as dominant in football. The 6-foot-3 inch, 210-pounder was a first-team all-state selection as an athlete after excelling on both sides of the ball for the Wolves.
He was the team’s top receiver with 60 catches for 978 yards and 12 touchdowns. As a linebacker, he was second on the team with 76 tackles and was named the Southeast League Defensive MVP.
Harris highlighted his basketball season with 21 points and 29 rebounds in a 77-69 win over Silverado.
Quote
“It was a good day to jump, and I’m just glad. I’m blessed that I won. I’m just looking forward to college now.”
