Looking ahead at the week in high school sports

Here is a look at some of the week’s top high school sports events.

BASEBALL

Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday — Arbor View vs. Centennial, 3:30 p.m.

This three-game Northwest League series kicks off Tuesday at Arbor View, with the final two games being played at Centennial. The Bulldogs swept their first league series, while Arbor View has yet to play a league game.

Wednesday — Pahrump Valley at Chaparral, 3:30 p.m.

Two of the top Class 3A teams square off in this nonleague matchup. Pahrump is looking to rebound after a slow start.

Thursdsay — Rancho at Coronado, 3:30 p.m.

A key Sunrise League matchup as the third-ranked Rams face the No. 7 Cougars. Coronado is coming off a trip to the championship game of the Boras Classic in Arizona, while Rancho has opened the season 9-1.

Thursday — Green Valley at Las Vegas, 3:30 p.m.

The Gators have started the season cold with a 3-4 record, and will look to rebound in this road contest. Both of these teams should be in contention for a playoff spot, and this game could help determine postseason seeding down the line.

BOYS GOLF

Tuesday — Coronado vs. Faith Lutheran at Anthem, 3 p.m.

The Cougars finished second among Southern Nevada teams at last year’s state tournament, and the Crusaders placed third, so Tuesday’s match should be a close one.

Thursday — Southwest League Match at Rhodes Ranch Golf Club, 1 p.m.

Bishop Gorman was the class of the league last year, and the other teams have an early-season crack at the Gaels.

SOFTBALL

Monday — Coronado at Silverado, 3:30 p.m.

Coronado may be the team to beat in the Sunrise Region, but the Skyhawks are off to an impressive 7-2 start behind a potent offense. Silverado hasn’t won the Sunrise since 2004, and Monday could be a good measuring stick of where it stands.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday — Shadow Ridge vs. Palo Verde, 3:30

The Panthers are the defending state champions, but the Mustangs are the top-ranked team after returning four all-state players. It should be the series of the year in the Northwest League, with Tuesday at Shadow Ridge and Wednesday and Thursday at Palo Verde.

Thursday — Chaparral at Western, 3:30 p.m.

An intriguing nonleague Class 3A match-up, the Warriors scored 80 runs in their first five games of the season. The Cowboys are No. 2 in the Review-Journal rankings.

SWIMMING

Thursday — Bishop Gorman vs. Palo Verde at Pavilion, 3:30 p.m.

A battle of Sunset Region powers as the Gaels face the Panthers in a rare mid-week meet.

TRACK AND FIELD

Friday — O’Dea Relays at Palo Verde, 3 p.m.

Twenty teams across the valley will congregate at Palo Verde for the O’Dea Relays. Awards will go to the top three finishers in each event, and plaques will go to the top two teams.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Thursday — Centennial at Bishop Gorman, 6 p.m.

Centennial, which made the Class 4A state tournament last season, is off to a 7-1 start, but the Gaels looms at 7-3.
