Looking ahead at the week in high school sports

Spring Break is here, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any high school sports this week. Here is a look at some of the week’s top events.
BASEBALL
Monday-Tuesday — Cowboy Classic at Chaparral, Del Sol and Tech
This tournament started on Saturday and will continue with bracket games Monday and Tuesday. Chaparral, Valley, Western, Clark, Del Sol, Lincoln County, Desert Pines, Eldorado, Virgin Valley, Canyon Springs, Mojave and Tech are the participants.
Tuesday’s championship game is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at Chaparral.
Monday-Wednesday — Blazer Spring Bash at Durango, Centennial, Cimarron-Memorial, Shadow Ridge, Las Vegas and Sierra Vista
This 26-team event kicks off Monday morning at various local high schools, and features many of the area’s top teams along with teams from California, Oregon and Colorado.
The tournament runs through Wednesday, with the championship game of the top bracket scheduled for 8 p.m. at Durango.
Monday-Wednesday — Grizzly Invitational at Spring Valley and Bonanza
This six-team, all-local tournament features a round-robin format. Spring Valley and Bonanza will be joined by Boulder City, Legacy, Pahrump Valley and Foothill.
SOFTBALL
Monday-Tuesday — Mountain Lion/Blazer Classic at Sierra Vista and Durango
The tournament kicked off with some pool play games on Saturday and continues Monday and Tuesday. Green Valley, Arbor View, Las Vegas, Legacy Durango and Sierra Vista are the local teams.
Thursday-Saturday — Spring Jamboree at Majestic Park
The top annual tournament in Las Vegas, Shadow Ridge placed third last year as the state’s top placer. The Mustangs return this year, along with Palo Verde, Centennial, Sierra Vista, Desert Oasis, Liberty and Pahrump Valley.
