Mountain View Capsule Preview

Coach: Ray LeBoeuf (third year)

2007 record: 7-3 (5-2 Southern League)

Returning starters: Five offense, seven defense

Top players: MLB/OT Billy Paddack (Sr.), QB/LB Raymond Velarde (Sr.), C/NG Kevin Santos (Sr.), OL/LB Nate Swingle (Sr.), RB Cortland LeBoeuf (Jr.), WR Tanner Peterson (Sr.)

Base offensive set: Spread

Base defensive set: 4-4/5-2

Outlook: One year after making their first playoff apperance, the Saints are on the move to 11-man football.

Much of Mountain View’s success will be tied to Paddack, who is being recruited by several Mountain West Conference schools and a handful of Western Athletic Conference and Pac-10 programs. The 2007 Class 1A Southern League Defensive Player of the Year rang up 114 tackles last season.

“He’s definitely an anchor and a senior leader,” Ray LeBoeuf said of Paddack. “He’s the hardest worker in practice, the first one to lend a helping hand. The kids play off that.”
