2A STATE: Monahan, Yerington eliminate Needles

Sam Monahan’s one-out single down the third-base line plated Cody Villalobos with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning as Yerington’s baseball team edged Needles, 11-10 in the losers' bracket final at the Class 2A state tournament Friday at Lovelock.
Matt Jones went 4-for-4 for the Lions (28-6-1), and Chase Ogolin was 2-for-5 with a double.
Bennie Robinson went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, and Michael Keddy was 2-for-4 with a triple for the Mustangs, who took a 10-9 lead in the top of the ninth on Matt McAndrews’ RBI single.
McAndrews finished 2-for-3, and Mason Cisneros was 2-for-4 for Needles (22-10).
Needles 9, The Meadows 3 — At Lovelock, Devin Truscott tossed a five-hitter with 10 strikeouts and helped himself by going 3-for-4 with a double to help Needles top The Meadows (22-9) in an elimination game.
Keddy had a solo home run, and McAndrews added a double for Needles, which had 15 hits.
Garrett Gosse and Justin Diamond each had a double for The Meadows, which did all its scoring in the third inning.
