BASEBALL: Aggies rout Patriots in matchup of top-five teams

Ryan McHale smacked a two-run home run, and Nick Quintana finished with four RBIs as Arbor View routed host Liberty 16-4 in five innings Tuesday in a matchup of top-five baseball teams.

Ben Cutting tossed a complete game for the win, allowing six hits. Quinn Gallagher had three hits and three RBIs, and Sam Pastrone added two doubles for the No. 5 Aggies.

Arbor View scored five runs in the top of the first inning off Liberty starter Bailey Daguio and tacked on seven runs in the fifth.

Nick Rush was 2-for-3, and Nick Woolery added a two-run double for the fourth-ranked Patriots.

Durango 5, Palo Verde 4 — At Palo Verde, Duke Pahukoa went 4-for-4 with an RBI, and the Trailblazers scored all their runs in the second inning to edge the Panthers.

Charlie Smith earned the win, and Collin Marracco provided a hitless seventh inning for the save. Palo Verde put the tying run on second base with one out in the bottom of the seventh before Marracco got Sam Powers to ground out and Jerron Lagusa to foul out to end the threat.

J.D. Brooks was 4-for-4 with two doubles and two runs, and Mitchell Rathburn added two hits for Palo Verde.

Las Vegas 11, Valley 0 — At Valley, Trey Chauncey tossed a two-hitter and struck out 10 as the Wildcats beat the Vikings in six innings.

Parker Lowe went 3-for-3 with a double, and Antonio Gaxiola and Hector Perez each finished 3-for-4 with a double for Las Vegas, which scored seven runs in the second inning.

Noah Ponce also doubled for the Wildcats.

Silverado 13, Canyon Springs 1 — At Silverado, Kevin Pindel allowed one hit and struck out five as the Skyhawks routed the Pioneers in five innings.

Chase Cortez led Silverado at the plate with a double, a triple and two RBIs.

Dillon Johnson, Payton Ballard and James Skelly also drove in two runs each for the Skyhawks.

Shadow Ridge 3, Cheyenne Mountain (Colo.) 0 — At Shadow Ridge, Chris Opolka fired a one-hitter as the Mustangs beat the Indians.

Opolka struck out 10 and walked one. He took a no-hitter into the seventh, but Nic Lacayo led off the inning with a single.

Tyler Burton and Jake Wilson each went 1-for-2 with an RBI for Shadow Ridge.

Bear Creek (Colo.) 5, Rancho 2 — At Rancho, Christian Hiep went 3-for-3 to help the Bears top the Rams.

Bear Creek took advantage of two walks and two hit batsmen to score twice in the second, and three errors to score three times in the third.

Zach Barnhart was 2-for-3 for Rancho.

Basic 2, North Medford (Ore.) 1 — At Basic, Jack Wold went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and the Wolves defeated the Black Tornado.

Trever Berg went six strong innings for Basic, and Ryne Nelson relieved Logan Green in the bottom of the seventh, striking out the final two batters to earn the save.

Basic scored the go-ahead run in the fifth on an error after Green singled to left field.

Moapa Valley 5, Del Sol 4 — At Overton, Bo Redd’s RBI single plated T.C. Twelker with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Pirates edged the Dragons.

Twelker reached on a one-out walk, took second on a fielder’s choice and went third on a balk before Redd’s single.

Riley Longman pitched three innings of relief to earn the win. Chaz Cornwall provided a two-run double, and Anthony Cornwall had two hits for Moapa Valley.

Cordell Bowie and Christian Wallace each supplied two hits for Del Sol, which scored three times in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 4-4.

Boulder City 12, Virgin Valley 1 — At Boulder City, Peyton Koopman went 2-for-3 with a home run, three runs and three RBIs as the Eagles downed the Bulldogs in five innings.

Patrick Garvin went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, and Nolan Desantis was 1-for-2 with a double, two runs and an RBI for Boulder City.

Koby Smothers was 1-for-2 with a run for Virgin Valley.

Tech 22, Desert Pines 3 — At Desert Pines, Rylee Campbell and Trevor Kephart each had three hits, three runs and two RBIs as the Roadrunners routed the Jaguars in five innings.

Jalen Birch supplied a triple, a double and four RBIs, and Sebastian Fitzgerald added a triple, a single, three runs and two RBIs for Tech, which scored 10 runs in the second.

Juan Castaneda had a three-run double in the third inning to account for all of Desert Pines’ runs.

Chaparral 20, Sunrise Mountain 2 — At Sunrise Mountain, Tyler Crone was 4-for-5 with four runs and three RBIs as the Cowboys beat the Miners in five innings.

Mark O’Connor went 3-for-3 with a triple, a double, three RBIs and three runs, and Robert O’Connor was 2-for-4 with a triple, three runs and an RBI for Chaparral, which had a 12-run first inning.

Angel Chavez doubled, and Andy Mojena had an RBI for Sunrise Mountain.

Pahranagat Valley 7, Mountain View 3 — At Mountain View, Christian Higbee pitched 3 2/3 innings of relief to earn the win and was 1-for-2 with two runs as the Panthers defeated the Saints.

Higbee, who took over in the fourth inning, struck out six and gave up just one hit for Pahranagat Valley.

Mountain View’s Josh Stanton went 3-for-3 with a double and a RBI, and teammate Ian locke added a triple.
