BASEBALL: Brozovich’s RBI single in seventh lifts Bonanza by Spartans

Torren Brozovich’s single to center field with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning Saturday plated Jay DeSoto with the winning run as Bonanza’s baseball team edged visiting Cimarron-Memorial, 5-4.

DeSoto tripled to right field with one out in the seventh before Brozovich singled on a 1-and-1 pitch.

The Bengals took a 4-1 lead into the seventh, but the Spartans rallied to tie the game.

Noah Loeffler’s one-out single brought home Jacob Godman to make it 4-2. Three batters later, Jaret Godman had a two-out, bases-loaded single to score Derek Decolati and Chandler DeLeon, tying the score.

DeSoto finished 2-for-2 with a triple, a double, two runs and an RBI, and Brozovich went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Bonanza.

Loeffler was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Alexander Marco and Trevor Doyle each went 2-for-4 for Cimarron.

Bishop Gorman 5, Newbury Park (Calif.) 0 — At Gorman, Matt Mitchell tossed a four-hitter with one walk and six strikeouts to lead the Gaels by the Panthers in the championship game of the Bishop Gorman Desert Classic.

Nick Hernandez had two hits and two RBIs for Gorman, which scored four runs in the fifth inning.

Myles Denson had two hits for Gorman.

Bishop Gorman 6, West Jordan (Utah) 4 — At Gorman, Nicholas Israel drove in two runs during a five-run first inning that helped the Gaels hold off the Jaguars in a semifinal of the Bishop Gorman Desert Classic.

Gorman took a 5-0 lead into the fifth before the Jaguars scored twice in the fifth and twice in the sixth to close the gap to 5-4.

Denson added a double and an RBI for Gorman.

Palo Verde 6, Arbor View 4 — At Arbor View, Cobi Fiechtner went 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs as the Panthers held off the Aggies.

Sam Powers was 3-for-4, and Nolan Erickson went 2-for-3 with two runs for Palo Verde, which got a solo home run from Jaxon Hammond.

Palo Verde took a 6-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth, but Arbor View scored one run in the sixth and three in the seventh — two on a home run by Nick Quintana — to pull within 6-4.

The Aggies had the potential tying runs on base, but Powers came on in relief and got a force out and a popout to end the game.

Joe Fitzhugh, Ryan McHale and Dylan Anderson each went 2-for-4 for Arbor View.

Centennial 4, Legacy 0 — At Legacy, Jake Rogers tossed an eight-hit shutout to lead the Bulldogs by the Longhorns.

Rogers walked one and struck out five.

Bryce Rheault was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Frank Sessa went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Centennial.

Legacy’s Austin Michals was 2-for-3 with a double, and Anthony Lomeli went 2-for-4 with a double for the Longhorns.

Mojave 14, Chaparral 6 — At Mojave, Otto Hernandez was 3-for-5 with a home run, a double and five RBIs, and the Rattlers used a seven-run sixth inning to top the Cowboys.

Andrew Foley was 2-for-3 with two doubles and four RBIs, and teammate Scott Wilson went 4-for-5 with a double for Mojave.

Chris Sedillo was 3-for-4 for Chaparral.

Lake Mead 18-15, White Pine 1-4 — At Ely, Brock Ramsay tossed a six-hitter and struck out 11 in the opener as the Eagles swept a pair of five-inning games from the Bobcats.

Joseph Johnson had two hits and two RBIs, and Hunter Harris and Mitch Dolinar each had two RBIs in the opener for Lake Mead.

In the nightcap, Christian Bennett and Johnson each had two of Lake Mead’s six hits. Dolinar had three RBIs, and Joey Giordano had two RBIs for Lake Mead.

Colton Britton had three hits in each game for White Pine.
