BASEBALL: Burger, Gators rally to down Longhorns

Ty Burger doubled home Drake Maningo with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning, and Green Valley’s baseball team rallied for a 6-5 victory over visiting Legacy on Tuesday.

Green Valley, which entered the sixth trailing by one run, tied the game on a sacrifice fly by Noah Wise that scored Gavin Morley.

Legacy had runners on second and third with two outs in the seventh, but reliever Thomas Rivera got Anthony Golemme to ground out to end the game.

Jarod Penniman was 3-for-4 with a run for Green Valley, which had 15 hits. Morley, Maningo and Burger each had two hits for the Gators.

Alex Tadd was 2-for-3 with three runs to lead Legacy. Daniel Zaragoza and Diego Portillo each added two hits for the Longhorns.

Basic 4, Centennial 2 — At Basic, Ryne Nelson hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth to break a 2-2 tie and lift the Wolves over the Bulldogs.

Nelson also picked up the victory, allowing two runs on three hits in five innings. He struck out five and walked four.

Josh McLean pitched two scoreless innings with four strikeouts to get a save. McLean also went 2-for-3.

Jack Wold was 1-for-3 with an RBI for Basic.

Durango 11, Eldorado 0 — At Durango, Artie Gallegos went 3-for-3 with two doubles and three runs scored, and Joey Shawhan was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs to help power the Trailblazers to a five-inning rout of the Sundevils.

Adam Niederman hit a home run, Kenny Busse supplied a triple and Richard Mascarenas, Andrew Ayala and Josh Barry each hit a double for Durango.

Collin Marracco threw five shutout innings, giving up one hit for the Trailblazers.

Rancho 6, Palo Verde 2 — At Rancho, Kavion Kealoha tossed six solid innings with five strikeouts to earn the win as the Rams downed the Panthers.

Zach Barnhart ripped a two-run double to left-center to break a 1-1 tie and key a four-run third inning for Rancho, which got two RBIs from Kealoha.

J.D. Brooks and Mitchell Rathburn each had two hits for Palo Verde.

Shadow Ridge 8, Foothill 3 — At Foothill, Eric Jordan was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI to lead the Mustangs over the Falcons.

Robbie Galvan went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Shadow Ridge.

Starter Jakob Peeler threw four hitless innings to get the win. He allowed one run, walked four and struck out three.

Dillon Peet was 1-for-1 with two runs for Foothill.

Faith Lutheran 23, Clark 0 — At Clark, Brandon Davis went 2-for-3 with a double, home run and five RBIs, and Greg Sylvester finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs and three RBIs as the Crusaders routed the Chargers in five innings.

Kanoa Flynn tossed five scoreless innings, scattering five hits and striking out two. Cruz Daddario, Joshua Harmonay and Daniel Lasky each had a double for Faith Lutheran.

Tech 17, Virgin Valley 2 — At Burkholder Park, Chandler Gehring went 3-for-3 with two doubles, and the Roadrunners beat the Bulldogs in five innings.

Gehring drove in three runs and scored four times. Zach West added a double for Tech, which took advantage of 12 walks to score all its runs in the first three innings.

Desert Pines 7, Canyon Springs 1 — At Canyon Springs, Juan Castaneda was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI and went the distance to pick up the victory as the Jaguars beat the Pioneers.

Castaneda scattered six hits and struck out four.

Jose Avelino was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Desert Pines.

Pahrump Valley 16, Western 1 — At Pahrump, Josh Mortensen went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, and the Trojans used a 10-run first inning to rout the Warriors in five innings.

Shelton Cajudoy was 1-for-1 with two RBIs, and Carlos Rivera was 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs for Pahrump.

Spring Valley 10, Mojave 6 — At Mojave, Alex Gomez went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, and Jake Sellinger was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to lift the Grizzlies over the Rattlers.

Nick Rupp struck out nine batters in five innings of work, and batterymate Jaxton Otis had two hits and two RBIs for Spring Valley.

Ryan Lawrence was 3-for-4 with a double, and Liam Harris supplied a two-run double for Mojave.

Sierra Vista 19, Cheyenne 8 — At Cheyenne, Kaven Alferaz went 3-for-3, and the Mountain Lions beat the Desert Shields in six innings.

Dylan White had a double for Sierra Vista, which scored nine runs in the second inning and benefited from 10 walks by two Cheyenne pitchers.

Angelo Hallenback went 4-for-4 with a double and a grand slam in the fourth inning for Cheyenne.

Lincoln County 15-11, Mountain View 0-1 — At Mountain View, McClain O’Connor threw five scoreless innings in the opener and went a combined 5-for-6 as the Lynx swept a doubleheader from the Saints.

O’Connor allowed three hits and struck out 10 in the first game and finished 3-for-4 with six RBIs, including a grand slam and a double. O’Connor then pitched the first two innings of the nightcap and went 2-for-2 with a triple.

Mike Wood went 2-for-3 in each game for Lincoln County, while Jordan Arrington doubled and had four RBIs in the second game. Charlie Scott was 2-for-4 and drove in three runs, and Cody Thornock had two hits in the finale. Derek Shumway pitched the final three innings of the second game and struck out four to earn the victory, and he also doubled.

Ian Locke had a double for Mountain View in the second game.

Lake Mead 12, Beaver Dam 6 — At Lake Mead, the Eagles scored nine times in the first inning to roll past the Diamondbacks.

Pahranagat Valley 20, White Pine 5 — At Alamo, the Panthers routed the Bobcats.
