BASEBALL: Chaparral’s Crone strikes out 16 in no-hitter

Tommy Crone fired a no-hitter as Chaparral’s baseball team knocked off visiting Desert Pines, 9-1, on Friday.

Crone struck out 16 and walked four. The Jaguars scored an unearned run in the top of the third after a walk, two stolen bases and a throwing error.

Chad Clark and Jose Ortiz each went 2-for-4 with two doubles for the Cowboys. Crone was 2-for-3 with a double, and Mark O’Connor went 2-for-4 with two runs for Chaparral.

Rancho 13, Spring Valley 10 — At Spring Valley, Dylan Pletsch tripled and drove in two runs as the Rams plated eight runs in the sixth inning to rally for a win over the Grizzlies.

Pletsch’s hit gave the Rams an 11-10 lead, and he also earned the save by pitching a scoreless seventh inning. Kavion Kealoha pitched 1 1/3 innings to pick up the win. He also doubled for the Rams.

Jose Verdugo was 2-for-3 with a double and a three-run homer, and Juan Cruz and Bryce Harrell each doubled for the Rams.

Spring Valley’s Michael Macove went 3-for-5 with five RBIs, and Bryce Bullock had a double for the Grizzlies.

Foothill 13, Palo Verde 6 — At Foothill, Alec Mathis was 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs and six RBIs to power the Falcons over the Panthers.

Collin Dobrolecki went 3-for-3 with four runs, Jack Fredericksen was 2-for-3 with a run and three RBIs, and Bligh Madris went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI for Foothill.

Yodai Nakamura went 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs for Palo Verde.

Las Vegas 9, Eldorado 3 — At Las Vegas, Eddie Ojeda went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to help the Wildcats down the Sundevils.

Antonio Gaxiola was 2-for-3 with two runs for Las Vegas, which scored five runs in the first inning with the help of five Eldorado errors.

Jose Sanchez allowed one earned run on six hits in six innings to get the win.

Jordan Bowden was 2-for-4 for Eldorado.

Liberty 11, Faith Lutheran 2 — At Liberty, Dan Skelly scattered two runs and struck out four in six innings and went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Patriots over Crusaders.

Jesse Keiser was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs for the Patriots. Ethan Ibarra was 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI, Preston Pavlica went 2-for-3 with a RBI, and Nick Rush went 3-for-4.

Logan Etherington drove in both runs for Faith Lutheran.

Basic 10, Valley 0 — At Basic, Ryne Nelson and Logan Green combined for a two-hitter as the Wolves downed the Vikings in six innings.

Green was 2-for-3 with a two-run home run for Basic, which got doubles from Skyler Mahoney and Cory Wills.

Roberto Beltran-Aleman and Jacob Cruz had the two Valley singles.

Bishop Gorman 15, Blessed Trinity (Ga.) 5 — At Gorman, Brandon Wulff went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs, and Drew Newson went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and three RBIs as the Gaels downed Blessed Trinity in five innings in the Bishop Gorman Easter Classic.

Michael Blasko was 2-for-3 with a home run, and Cadyn Grenier was 2-for-3 with a double for the Gaels.

Boulder City 19, Sunrise Mountain 0 — At Sunrise Mountain, Austin Wishard went 3-for-5 with four RBIs and four runs, and the Eagles routed the Miners in six innings.

Wishard had two doubles and a triple for Boulder City, which scored 11 runs in the sixth. Austin Shepard and Patrick Garvin each went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Taylor Wold was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Seth Kermode also was 2-for-4, and Mario Castanon added three RBIs.

Zach Murphy and Preston Van Diest combined on the one-hitter for the Eagles.

Pahrump Valley 2, Virgin Valley 1 — At Mesquite, A.J. Segura fired a two-hitter and went 3-for-3 with a triple, a run and an RBI to lead the Trojans over the Bulldogs.

Segura didn’t allow an earned run and struck out eight with no walks.

Josh Mortensen was 2-for-4 with a run, and Cody Kovatch went 2-for-4 for Pahrump, which scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh.
